Abstract
A cutting tool of the type having a tool support with a cutting tip of CVD diamond film brazed to it has the diamond material so oriented that the general direction of grain boundaries is not normal to the general plane of the rake face.
Claims22
A cutting tool comprising a polycrystalline diamond cutting member having a cutting edge and having a flank face and a rake face, the rake face being in a general plane extending from the cutting edge, the cutting member having crystal grain boundaries formed as deposited film columnar structures extending at least in a region near the cutting edge in a general direction which is non-normal to the general plane of the rake face.
