Method of improving adhesion between alkylated chlorosulfonated polyethylene (ACSM) or chlorosulfonated polyethylene (CSM), and resorcinol formaldehyde latex (RFL) treated polyester cord

A method for improving the adhesion of a polyester reinforcing element to a chlorosulfonated polyethylene rubber compound which comprises:

• dipping the element into a resorcinol-formaldehyde latex dip comprising chlorosulfonated polyethylene and an amine functional polyacrylate;
• drying the element;
• heat setting the element at a temperature in the range from about 300.degree. F. to about 425.degree. F. under tension;
• incorporating the element into the rubber compound;
• and
• curing the element and the rubber compound.

A method for improving the adhesion of a polyester reinforcing element to a chlorosulfonated polyethylene rubber compound, wherein the improvement comprises:

• applying a resorcinol-formaldehyde latex comprising chlorosulfonated polyethylene to the element;
• heat setting the element at a temperature in the range from about 300.degree. F. to about 425.degree. F. under tension;
• incorporating the element into the rubber compound;
• and
• curing the element and the rubber compound.
