Abstract
Promoters from endogenous genes of plants are isolated, wherein said promoters direct gene expression selectively in stamen cells of said plant, particularly in tapetum cells of said plant. The promoters may be used to transform a plant with a foreign DNA sequence encoding a product which selectively disrupts the metabolism, functioning, and/or development of stamen cells of the plant.
Claims9
An isolated promoter from an endogenous gene of a plant, wherein said endogenous gene encodes an mRNA from which a cDNA of at least 365 bp in length can be prepared, said cDNA sharing at least about 92% sequence similarity with the TA29 cDNA of FIG. 2, the DNA of FIG. 3A between positions 1477 and 2592, or the TA13 cDNA of FIG. 3B, wherein said promoter directs gene expression selectively in stamen cells of said plant and causes gene expression in tapetum cells of said plant.
