Abstract
A composite for retarding bacterial, fungal and viral contamination and mold growth including a hydrophobic material containing an acid releasing agent, and a hydrophilic material containing chlorite anions. The hydrophilic and hydrophobic materials are adjacent and substantially free of water, and the hydrophilic material is capable of releasing chlorine dioxide upon hydrolysis of the acid releasing agent.
Claims41
A composite for retarding bacterial, fungal and viral contamination and mold growth comprising:
- a hydrophobic material containing an acid releasing agent and a diluent;
- and
- a hydrophilic material containing chlorite anions, the hydrophilic and hydrophobic materials being adjacent and substantially free of water, the hydrophilic material being capable of releasing chlorine dioxide upon hydrolysis of the acid releasing agent.
A composite for retarding bacterial, fungal and vital contamination and mold growth comprising:
- a hydrophobic material containing an acid releasing agent;
- and
- a hydrophilic material containing chlorite anions and an amine, an amide, an alcohol, or a compound containing amino, amido or hydroxyl moieties;
- the hydrophilic and hydrophobic materials being adjacent and substantially free of water, and the hydrophilic material being capable of releasing chlorine dioxide upon hydrolysis of the acid releasing agent.
A dispersion for retarding bacterial, fungal and viral contamination and mold growth comprising:
- a hydrophobic continuous phase containing an acid releasing agent;
- and
- a hydrophilic dispersed phase containing chlorite anions, the hydrophilic dispersed phase add the hydrophobic continuous phase being substantially free of water, the hydrophilic dispersed phase being capable of releasing chlorine dioxide upon hydrolysis of the acid releasing agent.
A dispersion for retarding bacterial, fungal and vital contamination and mold growth comprising:
- a hydrophobic dispersed phase containing an acid releasing agent;
- and
- a hydrophilic continuous phase containing chlorite anions, the hydrophilic continuous phase and the hydrophobic dispersed phase being substantially free of water, the hydrophilic continuous phase being capable of releasing chlorine dioxide upon hydrolysis of the acid releasing agent.
A composite for retarding bacterial, fungal and vital contamination and mold growth comprising:
- a hydrophobic material containing an acid releasing agent selected from the group consisting of phosphoric acid, a trimethylsilyl phosphate ester, a dialkyl phosphate, sulfonic acid, a sulfonic acid chloride, a homopolymer of a mixed inorganic acid anhydride, a phosphosilicate, a phosphosilane, a copolymer of an organic acid anhydride with a monomer containing a double bond, a copolymer of a mixed inorganic acid anhydride with a monomer containing a double bond, and a mixed inorganic acid, anhydride containing a phosphorus-oxygen-silicon bond;
- and
- a hydrophilic material containing chloride anions, the hydrophilic and hydrophobic materials being adjacent and substantially free of water, the hydrophilic material being capable of releasing chlorine dioxide upon hydrolysis of the acid releasing agent.
