An azo dye of formula ##STR134## wherein D is a radical of a diazo component of formula ##STR135## wherein A is a radical of the formula ##STR136## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are each independently of the other halogen, hydroxy, alkoxy, alkylthio, amino, alkylamino, dialkylamino, arylamino, piperidino or morpholino,
- W is halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, carboxy, alkanoylamino, arylamino, arylcarbonylamino or arylureido,
- R is alkyl,
- An.sup..crclbar. is a colourless anion, and
- n is 0 or 1,
- X is hydrogen, alkyl or alkoxy,
- Y is hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxy, alkanoylamino, arylcarbonylamino or arylureido,
- R.sub.3 is hydrogen or alkyl,
- R.sub.4 is hydrogen, alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl, or R.sub.3 and R.sub.4, together with the linking N-atom, is a pyrrolidino, piperidino, morpholino or piperazino ring, which piperazino ring is unsubstituted at the N atom which is not linked to the coupling component, or is substituted by alkyl, arylcarbonyl, arylaminocarbonyl, benzothiazolyl, benzothioazolylaryl, or by an aromatic carbocyclic or heterocyclic radical, with the proviso that n is 1 if R.sub.4 or the ring formed by --NR.sub.3 R.sub.4 does not contain an aromatic carbocyclic or heterocyclic ring as substituent and with the further proviso that, if n is 0, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4, together with the linking N-atom, form a piperazino ring which is substituted at the N atom which is not linked to the coupling component by a radical A.
A dye of formula ##STR139## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are each independently of the other halogen, hydroxy, alkoxy, alkylthio, amino, alkylamino, dialkylamino, arylamino, piperidino or morpholino,
- R is unsubstituted C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl which is substituted by hydroxy, phenyl or aminocarbonylethyl,
- Y is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkylcarbonylamino,
- R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are each independently of the other unsubstituted C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl which is substituted by hydroxy, chloro, cyano, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxycarbonyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkylcarbonyloxy, carboxamido, phenyl, amino, monoalkylamino, dialkyamino or trialkylammonium, and the alkyl moieties of the alkylamino groups are unsubstituted or substituted by the cited substituents,
