Abstract
Anandamides useful for the treatment of intraocular hypertension, as well as ophthalmic compositions comprising the same and a cyclodextrin, and methods of use of these compounds to treat intraocular hypertension.
Claims29
An ophthalmic composition for reducing intraocular pressure comprising an admixture of:
- (A) a pharmaceutically effective amount of an anandamide represented by Formula (I):
- ##STR10## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are each H or (CH.sub.2).sub.a -(R.sup.4 CH).sub.b --(CH.sub.2).sub.c -R.sup.3, wherein a, b and c are each an integer of from 0 to 10;
- and R.sup.3 is OH, SH, CH.sub.3, CH.dbd.CH.sub.2, C.tbd.CH, C.tbd.N, F, Cl, Br or I;
- R.sup.4 is H or (CH.sub.2).sub.l --CH.sub.3, wherein l is an integer from 0 to 10;
- provided that a+b+c+l.ltoreq.10;
- x is an integer of from 0 to 18;
- y is an integer of from 0 to 8;
- z is an integer of from 0 to 18;
- and
- (B) a cyclodextrin.

A method for the treatment of intraocular hypertension, comprising topically administering to an eye of a subject in need of such treatment, a pharmaceutically effective amount of an anandamide represented by Formula (I):
- ##STR11## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are each H or (CH.sub.2).sub.a -(R.sup.4 CH).sub.b --(CH.sub.2).sub.c -R.sup.3, wherein a, b and c are each an integer of from 0 to 10;
- and R.sup.3 is OH, SH, CH.sub.3, CH.dbd.CH.sub.2, C.tbd.CH, C.tbd.N, F, Cl , Br or I;
- R.sup.4 is H or (CH.sub.2).sub.l --CH.sub.3, wherein l is an integer from 0 to 10;
- provided that a+b+c+l.ltoreq.10;
- x is an integer of from 0 to 18;
- y is an integer of from 0 to 8;
- and
- z is an integer of from 0 to 18.
