A method of configuring data packets for a data driven processor, the data driven information processor having a data packet producing means for producing the data packets, and a data flow ring architecture for operating, according to data flow computational protocol, upon data packets received from the data packet producing means, the method comprising the step of:
- a) configuring each data packet to include a multidimensional generation number;
- and
- b) operating, according to data flow computational protocol, upon the data packets configured by step a);
- wherein the multidimensional generation number identifies at least two things to the data flow ring architecture, the first thing being a generation to which data contained in the data packet belongs, and the second thing being an additional attribute of the data contained in the data packet;
- wherein the data driven information processors a data driven image processor that operates upon a sequence of images;
- wherein each image in the sequence is identify with a field number;
- wherein each image organized as a two-dimensional matrix of pixels;
- wherein the step a) includes:
- a1) configuring the multidimensional generation number to have a first component and a second component;
- a2) establishing a field number as the first component of the multidimensional generation number, thereby establishing the field number as the generation;
- and
- a3) establishing a location of a pixel in the matrix as the second component of the multidimensional generating number, thereby identifying the pixel location as the attribute.
