Abstract
The continuous mixing apparatus for preparing a rubber composition has a mixing chamber accommodating at least one rotor rotating in a stator and extending between an upstream end and a downstream end between which the material progressively passes. The base elastomers are introduced at the upstream end of the mixing chamber by means of volumetric pumps capable of delivering the said base polymers under pressure. It has members for the dosaging and forced introduction of the other components, arranged along the mixing chamber at at least two longitudinally separated positions between the upstream end and the downstream end.

- a confined enclosure in communication with the upstream end of the mixing chamber,
- means for force feeding by a volumetric pump a predetermined volume of the unmixed base elastomer at a controlled rate into the upstream end directly through the confined enclosure completely filled with base elastomer to impart heat by mechanical working to the base elastomer as it is force fed from the volumetric pump and through the confined enclosure,
- dosaging and introduction means for introducing other components of the rubber composition at at least one location spaced longitudinally between the upstream end and the downstream end.
A continuous mixing apparatus for preparing a rubber composition comprising a mixing chamber having an upstream end and a downstream end and including at least one rotor rotating within a stator and extending between the upstream end and the downstream end between which material introduced into the mixing chamber moves progressively, the rubber composition being expelled from the downstream end, a hopper for at least one base elastomer, a volumetric pump for introducing the elastomer into the upstream end of the mixing chamber, means interposed between a discharge from the hopper and an intake to the volumetric pump to shred and plasticize the elastomer and fill the intake to the volumetric pump and dosaging and introduction means to introduce predetermined amounts of components of the rubber composition at controlled rates into the mixing chamber downstream of the upstream end.
