Multicatalytic protease inhibitors

A compound of formula:

• ##STR49## wherein:
• R.sub.1 is selected from the group consisting of --C.tbd.N, --C(=O)OR.sub.9, phthalimido, --NH--SO.sub.2 R.sub.9, and --NH--J;
• R.sub.2 is selected from the group consisting of H, hydroxyl, alkyl having from one to ten carbons, and cycloalkyl having from three to seven carbons;
• R.sub.3 is selected from the group consisting of --(CH2).sub.m --NH--C(=N--R.sub.5)--NH.sub.2, --R.sub.6 --NO.sub.2, --R.sub.6 --J, and --R.sub.6 --CN;
• R.sub.4 is --CH(CH.sub.2 --R.sub.7)--Q;
• Q is selected from the group consisting of --CH--R.sub.8, --C(=O)CH.sub.3, --C(=O)CH.sub.2 Cl, --C(=O)CH.sub.2 Br, --C(=O)CH.sub.2 F, --C(=O)CHF.sub.2, --C(=O)CF.sub.3, --C(=O)C(=O)R.sub.7, --C(=O)C(=O)NH--R.sub.7, --C(=O)CO.sub.2 --R.sub.7, --C(=O)CO.sub.2 H, --B(OH).sub.2, ##STR50## where p and q, independently, are 2 or 3;
• W is cycloalkyl;
• R.sub.5 is selected from the group consisting of --NO.sub.2, --CN, and --J;
• R.sub.6 is --(CH.sub.2).sub.m --NH--C(=NH)--NH--;
• R.sub.7 is selected from the group consisting of phenyl, and alkyl having from one to eight carbons, said alkyl group being optionally substituted with one or more halogen atoms, aryl, or heteroaryl groups;
• R.sub.8 is selected from the group consisting of =O, =N--NHC(=O)--NH.sub.2, =N--OH, =N--OCH.sub.3, =N--O--CH.sub.2 --C.sub.6 H.sub.5, =NNH--C(=S)--NH.sub.2 and =N--NH--J;
• R.sub.9 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, and alkyl having from one to six carbons, said alkyl group being optionally substituted with one or more halogen atoms, aryl or heteroaryl groups;
• J is a protecting group;
• n is an integer from 3 to 10;
• and
• m is an integer from 2 to 5.
