Abstract
An organ storage device permits both static storage and perfusion of an organ without removing the organ from an organ container. The organ storage device includes a contoured organ container. The organ container is stored and transported in an insulated temperature controlled static storage module. The container module is equipped with monitoring devices for monitoring the organ during storage and transportation. The container module is also equipped with an assembly for connecting the organ container to a perfusion module.
Claims21
A device for holding an organ, comprising:
- an organ container;
- a lower organ receiving portion located within the organ container;
- and
- an upper organ receiving portion located within the organ container and spaced from said lower organ receiving portion, wherein the upper and lower organ receiving portions are configured to contact and immobilize an organ.
A device for storing or transporting an organ comprising:
- an organ container having a cover, wherein the organ container also serves as a perfusate fluid reservoir;
- a temperature controlled portable storage module for receiving said organ container;
- portable perfusion means for circulating a perfusion fluid, wherein the perfusion means are removably attachable to an exterior of the portable storage module;
- and
- a perfusion fluid tube, wherein first and second ends of the perfusion fluid tube are in fluid communication with an interior of the organ container to form a closed fluid system, wherein the perfusion fluid tube is extendable from the organ container to an exterior of the portable storage module, and back to the organ container, and wherein the perfusion fluid tube is connectable to the perfusion means.
