Abstract
Provided are transgenic plants with resistance to viral infection, methods for conferring such resistance, and methods for producing the transgenic plants.
Claims5
A potato plant transformed with DNA encoding a P1 protein of potato virus Y or a portion thereof which retains P1 proteolytic activity and which binds RNA.
A potato plant shoot transformed with a vector comprising a P1 DNA of potato virus Y or a portion thereof which retains P1 proteolytic activity and which binds RNA.
A method for conferring resistance to potato virus Y in a potato species, comprising the step of:
- transforming one or more members of said potato species with DNA encoding a P1 protein of potato virus Y.
A method for production of potato plants having resistance to potato virus Y, comprising the steps of:
- a) transforming a potato plant or a potato plant shoot with a P1 DNA of potato virus Y;
- and
- b) cultivating said potato plant or potato plant shoot.
