Abstract
A shoe includes a heel support for receiving a rotatable and replaceable rear sole to provide longer wear. The shoe may also include a graphite insert supported by the heel support between the heel and the rear sole to reduce midsole compression and provide additional spring. The replaceable rear sole and the graphite insert allow the shoe to be adapted to different desired performance characteristics depending upon the intended activity and terrain or playing surface.
Claims42
A shoe comprising:
- an upper having a heel region;
- a rear sole secured below the heel region of the upper;
- and
- a flexible plate having upper and lower surfaces and supported between at least a portion of the rear sole and at least a portion of the heel region of the upper, peripheral edges of the plate being restrained from movement in a direction substantially perpendicular to a major axis of the shoe so that an interior portion of the plate is deflectable relative to the peripheral edges in a direction substantially perpendicular to the major axis of the shoe.

A shoe comprising:
- an upper;
- a forward sole attached to the upper;
- a heel support attached to a heel region of the upper and having at least one wall extending downwardly from the upper, the wall having one of a protrusion and an indention;
- a rear sole;
- and
- a member innerconnecting the rear sole with the heel support, the member including a first one of an indention and protrusion for engaging the other one of the indention and protrusion on the heel support wall to detachably secure the member and the rear sole to the heel support, the member including a second one of a protrusion and indention for connecting the member to the rear sole and allowing selective rotation of the rear sole relative to the member without disengaging the member from the rear sole or the member from the heel support.

A shoe comprising:
- an upper having a heel region;
- a rear sole secured below the heel region of the upper;
- and
- a flexible plate having upper and lower surfaces and supported between at least a portion of the rear sole and at least a portion of the heel region of the upper, peripheral edges of the plate being restrained from movement relative to an interior portion of the plate in a direction substantially perpendicular to a major axis of the shoe so that the interior portion of the plate is deflectable relative to the peripheral edges in a direction substantially perpendicular to the major axis of the shoe.
