Abstract
Compounds having the formula ##STR1## and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof wherein X is a single bond, O, CO, S, NH or N(lower alkyl); Y is O, S or NCN; and R.sup.1 to R.sup.5' are as defined herein. These compounds have potassium channel activating activity and are useful, therefore for example, as cardiovascular agents.

A compound of the formula ##STR33## or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof wherein X is a single bond, O, CO, S, NH or N(lower);
- Y is O, S or NCN;
- R.sup.1 is cycloalkyl, aryl, or (aryl)alkyl;
- R.sup.2 is hydrogen, alkyl, haloalkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, cycloalkyl, arylalkyl, (cycloalkyl)alkyl, --CN, --NO.sub.2, --COR, --COOR, --CONHR, --CONR.sup.6, --CF.sub.3, --S-alkyl, --SOalkyl, --SO.sub.2 alkyl, ##STR34## halogen, amino, substituted amino, --O-alkyl, --OCF.sub.3, --OCH.sub.2 CF.sub.3, --OCOalkyl, --OCONRalkyl, --NRCOalkyl, --NRCOOalkyl or --NRCONR.sup.6, where R is hydrogen, alkyl, haloalkyl, aryl, arylalkyl, cycloalkyl or (cycloalkyl)alkyl;
- R.sup.3 is hydrogen, alkyl, hydroxy, --O-alkyl, amino, substituted amino, --NHCOR, --CN or --NO.sub.2 ;
- R.sup.4 is heterocyclo;
- R.sup.5 and R.sup.5' are hydrogen, alkyl, or haloalkyl;
- R.sup.6 is hydrogen, hydroxy or --OCOR;
- and
- n is an integer of 1 to 3, provided that when R.sup.4 -is pyridyl, R.sup.1 is alkyl, X is a single bond and Y is oxygen, then R.sup.2 is --CN or --CONHR and that when R.sup.2 is hydrogen then R.sup.3 is other than hydrogen.
