Abstract
The present invention pertains to a method for delivering a neuropharmaceutical or diagnostic agent across the blood brain barrier to the brain of a host. The method comprises administering to the host a therapeutically effective amount of an antibody-neuropharmaceutical or diagnostic agent conjugate wherein the antibody is reactive with a transferrin receptor. Other aspects of this invention include a delivery system comprising an antibody reactive with a transferrin receptor linked to a neuropharmaceutical or diagnostic agent and methods for treating hosts afflicted with a disease associated with a neurological disorder.
Claims9
A method for delivering a therapeutically effective amount of a nerve growth factor or a neurotrophic factor across the blood-brain barrier of a mammal comprising administering a conjugate of an antibody, or biologically functional binding fragment thereof, and either a nerve growth factor or a neurotrophic factor to the mammal under conditions whereby said conjugate binds to transferrin receptors on brain endothelial cells and the nerve growth factor or the neurotrophic factor is transported across the blood-brain barrier of the mammal in a pharmaceutically active form and in a therapeutically effective amount.
A conjugate of an antibody, or biologically functional binding fragment thereof, and either a nerve growth factor or a neurotrophic factor wherein said conjugate is bindable to transferrin receptors on brain endothelial cells.
A pharmaceutical composition comprising:
- (a) a conjugate of an antibody, or biologically functional binding fragment thereof, and either a nerve growth factor or a neurotrophic factor, and (b) a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, wherein said conjugate is bindable to transferrin receptors on brain endothelial cells.
