Abstract
An energy storage device comprising an array of electrical coils formed from relatively high temperature superconducting material, the coils being arranged around a common axis and carrying working currents in the same sense.
Claims6
An energy storage device comprising an array of electrical coils formed from material which superconducts above the temperature of liquid helium, the axes of adjacent coils being laterally spaced apart and arranged around a common axis such that the cross-sections of the coils do not overlap, and the coils being connected to an electrical power supply, and carrying working currents in the same sense with respect to the common axis, said array including a central coil, and wherein each coil is formed from a set of windings, the radial dimension of the windings of each coil being small relative to the radius of the coil.
