Abstract
A winch assembly is provided for use with a torque-override shaft. The winch assembly includes a winch supported on a winch shaft for rotation therewith and a winch housing defining a first chamber for the winch and including a housing wall with an opening to receive the winch shaft. In addition, the winch assembly includes a torque-override apparatus, a shell defining a second chamber for receiving the torque-override apparatus and having a radially-extending peripheral rim, and means for retaining the peripheral rim in fixed engagement with the housing wall so that the shell is prevented from rotating with respect to the winch housing.
Claims13
A torque-limited winch assembly comprising
- a winch supported on a winch shaft for rotation therewith,
- a first enclosed chamber for housing the winch including a housing wall formed to include an opening to receive the winch shaft,
- a torque-override apparatus,
- a second enclosed chamber separated from the first chamber for receiving the torque-override apparatus including a shell having a radially-extending peripheral rim, and
- means for retaining the peripheral rim in fixed engagement with the housing wall so that the shell is prevented from rotating with respect to the housing wall.
