Abstract
A method of inhibiting an ethylene response in a plant is disclosed herein. The method comprises applying to the plant an effective ethylene response-inhibiting amount of cyclopropene, 1.1.1. propellane, or derivatives thereof. Also disclosed are methods of inhibiting abscission in plants and methods of prolonging the life of cut flowers.

A method of inhibiting an ethylene response in a plant, comprising applying to the plant an effective ethylene response-inhibiting amount of a compound of Formula I:
- ##STR3## wherein:
- n is the number 1;
- and
- R is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, saturated or unsaturated C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 alkyl, hydroxy, halogen, alkoxy, amino and carboxy.
A method of inhibiting abscission in a plant, comprising applying to the plant an effective abscission-inhibiting amount of a compound of Formula I:
- ##STR4## wherein:
- n is the number 1;
- and
- R is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, saturated or unsaturated C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 alkyl, hydroxy, halogen, alkoxy, amino and carboxy.
A method of prolonging the life of a cut flower, comprising applying to the cut flower an effective life-prolonging amount of a compound of Formula I:
