Abstract
This invention relates to a composition comprising a tramadol material and a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug, and its use. The compositions are pharmacologically useful in treating pain and tussive conditions. The compositions are also subject to less opioid side-effects such as abuse liability, tolerance, constipation and respiratory depression. Furthermore, where the components of the compositions are within certain ratios the pharmacological effects of the compositions are superadditive (synergistic).

A pharmaceutical composition comprising a tramadol material and ibuprofen, wherein the ratio of the tramadol material to the ibuprofen is a weight ratio of from about 1:1 to about 1:200.
A method for treating pain and tussive conditions in a mammal comprising administering to the mammal an effective amount of a pharmaceutical composition for treating pain and tussive conditions comprising a tramadol material and ibuprofen, wherein the ratio of the tramadol material to the ibuprofen is a weight ratio of from about 1:1 to about 1:200.
A method for treating pain in a mammal comprising administering to the mammal an effective amount of a pharmaceutical composition for treating pain comprising a tramadol material and ibuprofen, wherein the ratio of the tramadol material to the ibuprofen is a weight ratio of from about 1:1 to about 1:200.
