Abstract
A novel peptide, polydiscamide A, has been isolated from a marine sponge. This compound, and its derivatives, are useful as antibacterial and antitumor agents.

A process for treating a human or animal hosting cancer cells, said process comprising administering to said human or animal a cancer cell inhibiting amount of a compound having the structure shown in FIG. 1, wherein R is Na, H, or CH.sub.3 ;
- and R.sub.1, R.sub.2, and R.sub.3 are H or Ac.
