Abstract
There are disclosed various compounds of the formula below, ##STR1## where n, X and R.sub.1 through R.sub.4 are as defined in the specification, which are useful for alleviating various memory dysfunctions characterized by a cholinergic deficit such as Alzheimer's disease. Compounds of this invention also inhibit monoamine oxidase and/or act at central .alpha..sub.2 -adrenergic receptors, and hence are useful as antidepressants.
Claims15
A compound of the formula ##STR40## where n is 2, 3, 4 or 5;
- X is hydrogen, loweralkyl, loweralkoxy, hydroxy, halogen, trifluoromethyl or nitro;
- R.sub.3 is hydrogen, lower alkyl, aryl lower alkyl, lower alkyl carbonyl or lower alkoxy carbonyl;
- R.sub.4 is --OH, ##STR41## wherein R.sub.5 is loweralkyl, loweralkenyl, loweralkynyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkylloweralkyl, aryl, arylloweralkyl or arylcycloalkyl;
- and R.sub.6 is hydrogen, loweralkyl, aryl or arylloweralkyl;
- or alternatively the group ##STR42## and R.sub.7 is loweralkyl, aryl or arylloweralkyl;
- and R.sub.8 is hydroxy, loweralkoxy, aminoloweralkoxy, loweralkyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkenyl, arylloweralkyl, arylcycloalkyl, loweralkylcarbonyloxy or loweralkylaminocarbonyloxy;
- or a pharmaceutically acceptable addition salt thereof.
