Abstract
A magnetic layer containing a magnetic powder whose surface is composed mainly of carbon and/or iron carbide and a binder is provided on a non-magnetic substrate, the magnetic layer further contains an organic dye compound having at least one polar group selected from the group consisting of a hydroxyl group, a carboxylic acid group, a sulfonic acid group and a salt thereof, and the binder contains an amino group and/or an ammonium salt group. Due to the improved dispersibility of a magnetic paint, the magnetic recording medium of the invention is improved in surface morphology, magnetic properties, and electromagnetic properties.
Claims6
A magnetic recording medium comprising on a non-magnetic substrate a magnetic layer containing a magnetic powder whose surface is composed mainly of carbon and/or iron carbide and a binder,
- said magnetic layer containing 0.5 to 10 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of said magnetic powder an organic dye compound having a polar group,
- wherein said polar group is at least one selected from the group consisting of a hydroxyl group, a carboxylic acid group, a sulfonic acid group and a salt thereof, and
- wherein said binder contains at least one of an amino group or an ammonium salt group an wherein said binder contains about 300 to 1000 ppm of Nitrogen from the amino group or ammonium salt group in its molecules.
