Abstract
The invention concerns the use of phthaloylhydrazide derivatives and their salts as anti-hypoxic and defensive agents, with special focus on the use of 5-aminophthaloylhydrazide and its salts, when administered in high doses.

A method for local treatment of skin irritation comprising topically applying an effective amount of a pharmaceutically acceptable salt of 5-amino-phthaloylhydrazide of the formula:

A method for treating infarct or of preventing rejection of transplants, comprising:
- administering daily and intravenously 5-aminophthaloylhydrazide having the formula ##STR3## in a dose of 10 to 300 mg per kilogram of body weight and in the form of a pharmaceutically acceptable salt.
