Abstract
A composition of matter suitable for use as a dispersant-viscosity improver for lubricating oil compositions comprises the reaction product of reactants comprising (a) an oil soluble, substantially hydrogenated, vinyl substituted aromatic-aliphatic conjugated diene block copolymer said copolymer having a number average molecular weight ranging from about 30,000 to about 300,000, grafted with an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid or functional derivative thereof; (b-1) at least one polyester containing at least one condensable hydroxyl group; and (b-2) at least one polyamine having at least one condensable primary or secondary amino group, and optionally, (c) at least one hydrocarbyl substituted carboxylic acid or anhydride.

A dispersant-viscosity improver for lubricating oil composition comprising the reaction product of reactants comprising
- (a) an oil soluble, substantially hydrogenated, vinyl substituted aromatic-aliphatic conjugated diene block copolymer said copolymer having a number average molecular weight ranging from about 30,000 to about 300,000, grafted with an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid or functional derivative thereof;
- (b-1) at least one polyester containing at least one condensable hydroxyl group;
- and
- (b-2) at least one polyamine having at least one condensable primary or secondary amino group.
An oil soluble or dispersible composition comprising the reaction product of reactants comprising
- (a) an oil soluble, substantially hydrogenated block copolymer of a vinyl substituted aromatic with a aliphatic conjugated diene, said copolymer having a number average molecular weight ranging from about 30,000 to about 300,000, grafted with an alpha,beta-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid or functional derivative thereof;
- (b-1) a polyisobutenyl substituted succinic polyester which polyester contains an average of at least one free hydroxyl group per mole of succinic groups;
- and
- (b-2) an alkylene polyamine having the formula
- H.sub.2 N-(alkylene-NR).sub.n -H
- wherein n is a number from 1 to about 10, each R is independently hydrogen, a hydrocarbyl group having from 1 to about 30 carbon atoms or a group of the formula ##STR6## wherein each x is independently 0 or a number from 1 to about 5, and said alkylene group contains from 2 to about 10 carbon atoms.
