Abstract
A method of treating damaged human tissues, especially mucosal and epithelial tissues, comprising topically administering to the damaged tissues a composition having an effective amount of misoprostol. The treatment is particularly effective against periodontal disease and oral ulcers caused by radiation therapy and chemotherapy.

A method of treating damaged mucosal and epithelial tissues comprising topically administering to the damaged tissue a composition having an effective amount of misoprostol, said mucosal tissue selected from the group consisting of oral, nasal, ocular, aural, anal and genital tissues.
