Abstract
Disclosed is a microorganism belonging to the genus Agrobacterium which is able to produce .beta.-1,3-glucan and is either deficient or defective in phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase activity. Preferred microorganisms are mutants of Agrobacterium sp. biovar I. Particularly preferred mutant strains are Agrobacterium sp. biovar I GA-27 (FERM BP-4350) and Agrobacterium sp. biovar I GA-33 (FERM BP-4351).
Claims5
A biologically pure culture of a mutant strain of Agrobacterium sp. biovar I, which produces .beta.-1,3-glucan, which has a phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase activity of about 0.006 .DELTA.E.sub.340 /min/mg protein or less and which is unable to grow in media containing succinic acid as a sole carbon source.
A microorganism which is Agrobacterium sp. biovar I GA-27 (FERM BP-4350).
A microorganism which is Agrobacterium sp. biovar I GA-33 (FERM BP-4351).
