Abstract
A chloride process for producing TiO.sub.2 by addition of an inert gas in a vapor phase reaction of TiCl.sub.4 and an oxygen-containing gas is disclosed.
Claims5
A chloride process for producing TiO.sub.2 comprising reacting at least vaporous TiCl.sub.4 with an oxygen-containing gas to form a reaction mass in the presence of an inert gas injected into the reaction mass in an amount of about 0.005 to about 0.5 pounds per pound of TiO.sub.2 and at a temperature of about -200.degree. C. to about 1000.degree. C. and at a pressure of about 500 to about 10,000 psig above reactor pressure.
