Abstract
Polyfluoroalkanes are used as propellants in sprayable compositions or in the the preparation of plastic foams and in the electrical industry as cleansing and degreasing agents.
Claims22
A method of forming plastic foam compositions comprising foaming a plastic based on isocyanate in the presence of a propellant the improvement wherein the propellant comprises at least one polyfluoroalkane of the formula:
- CX.sub.3 --CY.sub.2 --R
- wherein each of the X radicals independently represents hydrogen or fluorine and either:
- (1) the CY.sub.2 radical represents CH.sub.2, CHF or CH(CF.sub.3), and R represents CH.sub.2 F, CHF.sub.2, CH.sub.3, CF.sub.3, CF.sub.2 --CH.sub.3, CF.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 F, CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.3, CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.3, or CH (CH.sub.3)--CH.sub.3 ;
- or
- (2) the CY.sub.2 radical represents CF.sub.2 and R represents CH.sub.2 F, CHF.sub.2, CH.sub.3, CF.sub.2 --CH.sub.3, CF.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 F, CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.3, CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.3, or CH(CH.sub.3)--CH.sub.3 ;
- wherein the polyfluoroalkane contains at least two fluorine atoms, and
- wherein when the CY.sub.2 radical represents a --CH.sub.2 -- group and the R radical represents a --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.3 group, respectively, then the CX.sub.3 radical represents a CHF.sub.2 -- group.
A closed cell plastic foam composition prepared by foaming a plastic material based on isocyanate in the presence of a propellant the improvement wherein the propellant comprises at least one polyfluoroalkane of the formula:
- CX.sub.3 --CY.sub.2 --R
- wherein each of the X radicals independently represents hydrogen or fluorine and either:
- (1) the CY.sub.2 radical represents CH.sub.2, CHF or CH(CF.sub.3), and R represents CH.sub.2 F, CHF.sub.2, CH.sub.3, CF.sub.3, CF.sub.2 --CH.sub.3, CF.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 F, CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.3, CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.3, or CH (CH.sub.3)--CH.sub.3 ;
- or
- (2) the CY.sub.2 radical represents CF.sub.2 and R represents CH.sub.2 F, CHF.sub.2, CH.sub.3, CF.sub.2 --CH.sub.3, CF.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 F, CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.3, CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.3, or CH (CH.sub.3)--CH.sub.3 ;
- wherein the polyfluoroalkane contains at least two fluorine atoms, and
- wherein when the CY.sub.2 radical represents a --CH.sub.2 -- group and the R radical represents a --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.3 group, respectively, then the CX.sub.3 radical represents a CHF.sub.2 -- group.
