- ##STR4## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2, the same or different, are each a hydrogen atom, a C.sub.1-6 acyl group or a C.sub.1-6 acyl group substituted with a C.sub.3-8 cycloalkyl group or C.sub.6-8 aryl group;
- R.sup.3 is an (E)-2-haloethenyl group;
- or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
A pharmaceutical composition comprising an anti varicella zoster viral effective amount of a cyclopropane derivative of the formula (I):
- ##STR5## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2, the same or different, are each a hydrogen atom, a C.sub.1-6 acyl group or a C.sub.1-6 acyl group substituted with a C.sub.3-8 cycloalkyl group or C.sub.6-8 aryl group;
- R.sup.3 is an (E)-2-haloethenyl group;
- or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof;
- and
- a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient, diluent or carrier.
A method of treating a patient with a varicella zoster virus comprising administering an anti-viral effective amount of a pharmaceutical composition comprising:
- an anti-viral effective amount of a cyclopropane derivative of the formula (I):
- ##STR6## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2, the same or different, are each a hydrogen atom, a C.sub.1-6 acyl group or a C.sub.1-6 acyl group substituted with a C.sub.3-8 cycloalkyl group or C.sub.6-8 aryl group;
- R.sup.3 is an (E)-2-haloethenyl group;
