Abstract
A modified protease is disclosed, which is a mutant of the thermostable neutral protease wherein at least one amino acid residue of SEQ ID NO: 1 selected from the group consisting of the 144th leucine residue, the th aspartic acid residue, the 187th glutamic acid residue and the 227th asparagine residues is replaced with an amino acid residue other than said amino acid.

A modified neutral metallo-protease having the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:1, wherein at least one amino acid residue selected from the group consisting of the 144th residue, leucine, the 150th residue, aspartic acid, the 187th residue, glutamic acid, and the 227 residue, asparagine, is replaced with a natural L-amino acid residue other than either said amino acid residue or a proline residue, and wherein the 150th residue is substituted with a natural L-amino acid other than an arginine residue.
