Abstract
An a.c. electrical machine includes a plurality of first elements spaced from each other; a plurality of second elements spaced from each other and interstitially disposed with the first elements; a plurality of electrical windings on each of the first elements providing a current flow in a first direction; and a return for completing a magnetic flux path in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction on successive first elements and through the second elements for generating a force in a third mutually perpendicular direction between the first and second elements.
Claims17
A linear induction machine comprising:
- a plurality of radially spaced cylindrical shuttles;
- a plurality of radially spaced cylindrical stators interstitially disposed with said shuttles;
- a plurality of magnetically isolated magnetic teeth on each of said shuttles and said stators, the plurality of magnetically isolated magnetic teeth on each said shuttle being different in pitch from the plurality of magnetically isolated magnetic teeth on each said stator;
- return means including magnetic material for establishing a low reluctance axial flux path;
- a plurality of conductor paths associated with said teeth on each said shuttle;
- and
- a plurality of electrical windings on each stator, each winding associated with a different group of magnetic teeth for inducing a magnetic flux radially in a path in series through corresponding groups of teeth on successive shuttles and stators and returning axially through said return means.
A permanent magnet linear synchronous machine comprising:
- a plurality of radially spaced, radially magnetized shuttles each having a plurality of poles;
- a plurality of radially spaced stators interstitially disposed with said shuttles;
- each said stator including a plurality of magnetically isolated magnetic teeth;
- return means including magnetic material for establishing a low reluctance axial flux path;
- and
- a plurality of electrical windings on each stator, each winding associated with a different group of magnetic teeth;
- each said pole of each said shuttle inducing a magnetic flux radially in a path in series through corresponding groups of teeth on each stator and a magnetic pole on each shuttle and returning axially through said return means.
An a.c. linear electrical machine comprising:
- a plurality of radially spaced shuttles;
- a plurality of radially spaced stators interstitially disposed with said shuttles;
- a plurality of magnetically isolated magnetic teeth on each of said stators;
- a plurality of electrical windings on each stator, each winding associated with a different group of magnetic teeth;
- and
- return means including magnetic material for establishing a magnetic flux path radially in series through corresponding groups of teeth on successive stators, and interstitial shuttles, and axially in said return means.
An a.c. electrical linear machine comprising:
- a plurality of stators spaced from each other, each including a plurality of magnetically isolated magnetic teeth;
- a plurality of shuttles spaced from each other and interstitially disposed with said stators;
- a plurality of electrical windings on each of said stators, each winding associated with a different group of said magnetically isolated magnetic teeth for providing a current flow in a circumferential direction;
- and
- return means for completing a magnetic flux path in a radial direction perpendicular to said circumferential direction through corresponding groups of said teeth on successive said stators and through said shuttles for generating a force in an axial mutually perpendicular direction between said stators and said shuttles.
