Abstract
Sulfonic acid stilbenes block the infection of cells by HSV, and CMV and these compounds can be used to treat viral infection.
Claims5
A method of treating a viral infection selected from HSV and CMV, in a patient in need thereof comprising administering to the patient an antivirally effective amount of a compound of the formula ##STR6## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are each independently a S.dbd.C.dbd.N-- or CH.sub.3 C(O)NH-- group,
- B is a --HC.dbd.CH-- (cis or trans), group, and
- M.sub.1 and M.sub.2 are each independently a hydrogen or pharmaceutically acceptable cation.
