3,5-di-tertiarybutyl-4-hydroxyphenylmethylene derivatives of 2-substituted thiazolidinones, oxazolidinones, and imidazolidinones as antiinflammatory agents

A compound of the formula I ##STR29## and a pharmaceutically acceptable base or acid addition salt thereof;

• wherein
• Me is methyl;
• X is NH, or N-lower alkyl;
• R.sub.8 is hydrogen or methyl;
• Y is SCH.sub.3, SOCH.sub.3, SO.sub.2 CH.sub.3, NHCN, ##STR30## (CH.sub.2).sub.m CO.sub.2 R.sub.4, N(OH)COR.sub.5, NR.sub.4 W, S(CH.sub.2).sub.n CO.sub.2 R.sub.6, or NR.sub.7 COR.sub.6 ;
• n is 1, 2or3;
• m is 1 to5;
• R.sub.3 is H, lower alkyl, phenyl or phenyl substituted by one, two or three substituents of one or more of each of alkyl of one to four carbons, OR.sub.4, SR.sub.4, ##STR31## C(O)OR.sub.4, hydroxymethyl, NR.sub.6 R.sub.7, nitro or halogen;
• R.sub.4 is H or lower alkyl;
• R.sub.5 is lower alkyl, phenyl or phenyl substituted as defined above, or CF.sub.3,
• R.sub.6 is H or lower alkyl,
• R.sub.7 is lower alkyl;
• Z is O, S, NH, NCN;
• and
• W is CO.sub.2 R.sub.7 wherein R.sub.7 is as defined above, (CH.sub.2).sub.m COOH, ##STR32## (CH.sub.2).sub.m)OH, or C(CH.sub.2 OH).sub.3.
