Abstract
The invention relates to the manufacture of methyl mercaptan by catalytic hydrogenation of dimethyl disulphide on a catalyst based on sulphide(s) of at least one transition metal. The selectivity with respect to methyl mercaptan is considerably improved by working in the presence of water and/or hydrogen sulphide.
Claims13
Process for the selective preparation of methyl mercaptan by catalytic hydrogenation of dimethyl disulphide on a catalyst based on sulphide(s) of at least one transition metal, comprising performing the process in the presence of water and/or hydrogen sulphide.
Process for the selective preparation of methyl mercaptan by catalytic hydrogenation of dimethyl disulphide on a catalyst based on sulphide(s) of at least one transition metal selected from nickel, cobalt, molybdenum and/or tungsten comprising performing the process in the presence of water, wherein the proportion of water ranges from 0.01 to 50% by weight relative to the dimethyl disulphide.
