Abstract
Shearinines A, B and C, and 21-Isopentenylpaxilline are ascostromatal metabolites of the fungus Eupenicillium shearii. These indole alkaloid compounds are effective for controlling Coleopteran and Lepidopteran insects and the fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda.
Claims13
A substantially pure indole alkaloid selected from the group consisting of Shearinine A having the formula (C.sub.37 H.sub.45 NO.sub.5) and the structure:
- ##STR8## Shearinine B having the formula (C.sub.37 H.sub.47 NO.sub.5) and the structure:
- ##STR9## Shearinine C having the formula (C.sub.37 H.sub.47 NO.sub.7) and the structure:
- ##STR10## 21-Isopentenylpaxilline having the formula and the structure:

A composition for controlling insects comprising:
- an insecticide selected from the group consisting of Shearinine A, Shearinine B, Shearinine C, and 21-Isopentenylpaxilline;
- and an inert carrier.
A method of controlling insects comprising applying an effective amount of an insecticide selected from the group consisting of Shearinine A, Shearinine B, Shearinine C, and 21-Isopentenylpaxilline to a locus of insects.
