Abstract
A system/method of resetting the value of a control parameter (GCW.sub.CP indicative of vehicular gross combined weight and determined as a filtered/averaged value, to a predetermined default value, or to a test value, upon sensing vehicle operating conditions (OS=Oand t>REF) deemed indicative of a change in vehicle loading is provided. A vehicle automated system, such as an automated mechanical transmission system, is controlled as a function of the value of the control parameter.
Claims19
A method for controlling a vehicle system on a vehicle having an expected gross combined weight ranging from a minimum expected value to a maximum expected value, said system including at least one actuator and a controller for receiving input signals and processing same according to predetermined logic rules to issue command output signals to said actuator, said method comprising:
- (i) determining a value for a control parameter (GCW.sub.CP) indicative of current vehicular gross combined weight for said vehicle by:
- performing continuous determinations of current vehicular gross combined weight and a filtered average of a current and a plurality of previous determinations of current vehicular gross combined weight;
- determining as a function of said expected gross combined weight a default value for said value;
- determining at least one set of vehicle operating conditions deemed to be indicative of a change in vehicle loading;
- sensing for an occurrence of said set of vehicle operating conditions;
- and
- upon sensing the occurrence of said set of vehicle operating conditions, causing said value to be reset to the default value thereof;
- and
- (ii) controlling said system as a function of said value.
A system for controlling a vehicle system on a vehicle having an expected gross combined weight ranging from a minimum expected value to a maximum expected value, said system including at least one actuator and a controller for receiving input signals and processing same according to predetermined logic rules to issue command output signals to said actuator, said system comprising:
- (i) means for determining a value for a control parameter (GCW.sub.CP) indicative of current vehicular gross combined weight for said vehicle by:
- performing continuous determinations of current vehicular gross combined weight and a filtered average of a current and a plurality of previous determinations of current vehicular gross combined weight;
- determining as a function of said expected gross combined weight a default value for said value;
- determining at least one set of vehicle operating conditions deemed to be indicative of a change in vehicle loading;
- sensing for an occurrence of said set of vehicle operating conditions;
- and
- upon sensing the occurrence of said set of vehicle operating conditions, causing said value to be reset to the default value thereof;
- and
- (ii) means for controlling said system as a function of said value.
A machine for controlling an automated system on a vehicle having an expected gross combined weight ranging from a minimum expected value to a maximum expected value, said automated system including at least one actuator and said machine including means for receiving a plurality of input signals and processing same according to predetermined logic rules to issue command output signals to said actuator, said machine having a memory containing logic rules effective to:
- (i) determine a value for a control parameter (GCW.sub.CP) indicative of current vehicular gross combined weight for said vehicle by:
- performing continuous determinations of current vehicular gross combined weight and a filtered average of a current and a plurality of previous determinations of current vehicular gross combined weight;
- determining as a function of said expected gross combined weight a default value for said value;
- determining at least one set of vehicle operating conditions deemed to be indicative of a change in vehicle loading;
- sensing for an occurrence of said set of vehicle operating conditions;
- and
- upon sensing the occurrence of said set of vehicle operating conditions, causing said value to be reset to the default value thereof;
- and
- (ii) control said system as a function of said value.
