Abstract
This invention is therapeutically useful tetralins and pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof of the formula ##STR1## wherein R, R.sub.1 and A are as defined in claim 1. These compounds are useful to treat central nervous system disorders.

A compound having the formula
- where Y is hydrogen or halogen
- wherein R.sub.1 is
- (a) hydrogen
- (b) --OR.sub.4
- (c) --SR.sub.4
- (d) --OSO.sub.2 CF.sub.3
- (e) --CONR.sub.6 R.sub.6 (except that when A is (a) only one R.sub.6 can be hydrogen)
- (f) --CO--(2-pyrrolyl)
- wherein A is ##STR3## wherein R.sub.2 is (a) -hydrogen
- (b) --(C.sub.1 -C.sub.8) alkyl
- (c) --(C.sub.3 -C.sub.8) alkenyl
- (d) --(C.sub.3 -C.sub.8) alkynyl
- (e) --(CH.sub.2).sub.m --(C.sub.3 -C.sub.8)cycloalkyl
- (f) --(CH.sub.2).sub.m --(C.sub.3 -C.sub.8)cycloalkenyl
- (j) --(CH.sub.2).sub.m -aryl
- (h) --(CH.sub.2).sub.m --CO.sub.2 R.sub.6
- wherein R.sub.3 is
- (a) -hydrogen
- (b) --(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkyl
- (c) -aryl
- (d) --(CH.sub.2).sub.n --CO--(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkyl
- (e) --CO-aryl
- wherein R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 are
- (a) -hydrogen
- (b) --(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)-alkyl
- (c) --(C.sub.2 -C.sub.4)alkenyl

- wherein R.sub.6 is
- (a) -hydrogen
- (b) --(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkyl

- wherein m is 1 to 4 and n is 0 or 1 with the provisos that when A is formula a and Y is hydrogen, R.sub.2 is hydrogen or methyl and n is 1, then R.sub.1 cannot be hydrogen, hydroxy or alkoxy.
