Abstract
Salt-free poly(vinylamine) and vinylamine copolymers are formed by heating N-vinylformamide or N-vinylformamide copolymers to a temperature from about 50.degree. to 225.degree. C. in an aqueous medium in the presence of a catalyst comprising a transition metal which is a member of either the first transition series or of Group VIII.
Claims11
A process for the conversion of an N-vinylformamide containing polymer to the corresponding vinylamine polymer, said process comprising heating said N-vinylformamide containing polymer to a temperature of from about 50.degree. to 225.degree. C. in an aqueous medium in the presence of a catalyst comprising a transition metal selected from the group consisting of Group VIII metals, vanadium, chromium, manganese, copper, and zinc.
A process in accordance with claim I wherein said catalyst comprises a Group VIII metal selected from the group consisting of palladium, rhodium and ruthenium.
Dependencies are inferred from the claim text.
