Abstract
The toughness of a thermoplastic, rigid polyurethane is markedly improved by incorporating a mass ABS resin such as styrene/butadiene rubber grafted with a copolymer of styrene and acrylonitrile. This toughened polyurethane is particularly useful in making structural automotive body parts and housings for electrical appliances.
Claims8
A thermally processable, polyurethane composition comprising from about 35 to about 90 weight percent of a thermally processable, rigid polyurethane and from about 65 to 10 weight percent of a mass ABS either dispersed in or co-continuous with the polyurethane, said mass ABS resin being comprised of from about 5 to about 35 weight percent rubber and from about 95 to about 65 weight percent of a copolymer of acrylonitrile and styrene.
A thermally processable, polyurethane composition comprising from about 65 to about 35 weight percent of a thermally processable, rigid polyurethane consisting essentially of the reaction product of an organic diisocyanate and a cyclic diahl wherein at least 50 weight percent of the cyclic diahl is cyclohexane dimethanol and from about 35 to about 65 weight percent of a mass polymerized ABS resin being either dispersed in or co-continuous with the polyurethane.
