Abstract
A lithium secondary battery comprising a positive electrode a double oxide of lithium and nickel wherein said double oxide is formed by burning a mixture of a nickel compound such as nickel carbonate, and a lithium compound such as lithium nitrate, at an atomic ratio of Li/Ni of from >1.0 to 1.4, in either air or oxygen, and a method of manufacturing the same.
Claims4
A method of making a positive electrode for a lithium secondary battery wherein said electrode comprises a double oxide of lithium and nickel said method comprising the steps of
- burning a mixture of lithium nitrate in combination with at least one nickel compound selected from the group consisting of nickel carbonate and nickel hydroxide, wherein the atomic ratio of Li/Ni in said mixture is from greater than 1.0 to 1.4, at a temperature in the range of 620.degree. to 680.degree. C. to obtain a black burned powder;
- and
- adding a conductive agent and a binder to said powder to form said positive electrode.
