Dependent claims

A process for preparing a 4,5-difluorobenzaldehyde of the formula (I) ##STR4## in which X represents fluorine or chlorine and

Y represents hydrogen or chlorine,
wherein a benzaldehyde of the formula (II) ##STR5## in which X and Y are as defined for formula (I), is reacted with one or more fluorinating agents selected from the group consisting of sodium fluoride, potassium fluoride and cesium fluoride.
