Abstract
The new amorphous modification of 1,1',1"-nitrilo{tri-2-propyl-tris-[2,2'-ethylidene-bis(4,6-di-tert-butylph enyl)]phosphite } is obtained by cooling rapidly said compound from the melt to ambient temperature. This amorphous form is an effective process stabilizer for polyolefins, particularly polypropylene.
Claims14
The compound 1,1',1"-nitrilo{tri-2-propyl-tris-[2,2'-ethylidene-bis(4,6-di-tenbutylphen yl)]phosphite}having the formula I ##STR13## characterized by a glass wansidon temperature (T.sub.g) within the range of 137.degree.-142.degree. C. (DSC) and by an X-ray diffraction pattern which is featureless.
A process for the preparation of the amorphous form of the compound 1,1',1"-nitrilo{tri-2-propyl-tris-[2,2'-ethylidene-bis(4,6-di-tert-butylph enyl)]phosphite}having the formula I ##STR14## characterized by a glass transition temperature (T.sub.g) within the range of 137.degree.-142.degree. C. (DSC) and by an X-ray diffraction pattern which is featureless, which comprises melting said compound and rapidly cooling the melt.
A composition stabilized against thermal, oxidative and actinic induced degradation which comprises
- (a) an organic material subject to thermal, oxidative and actinic induced degradation, and
- (b) an effective stabilizing mount of the amorphous form of 1,1',1"-nitrilo{tri-2-propyl-tris-[2,2'-ethylidene-bis(4,6di-tert-butylphe nyl)]phosphite} having the formula I ##STR15## characterized by a glass transition temperature (T.sub.g) within the range of 137.degree.-142.degree. C. (DSC) and by an X-ray diffraction pattern which is featureless.
