Abstract
The present invention is directed to the use of benzothiadiazide derivatives as nootropic agents to treat memory and learning disorders.
Claims13
A method of treating memory disorders and learning disorders which comprises administering to a mammal a need of treatment an effective amount to treat learning disorders or memory disorders of a compound having the formula:
- ##STR10## R.sup.1 is H or halogen, or SO.sub.2 NH.sub.2 ;
- R.sup.2 is H or halogen;
- R.sup.3 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 straight or branched alkyl,
- C.sub.2 -C.sub.8 straight or branched alkenyl,
- C.sub.2 -C.sub.8 straight or branched alkynyl,
- C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 straight or branched alkyl, substituted with a halogen, NH.sub.2, N-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl substituted amine, N,N'-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl disubstituted amine, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy group, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -thioalkyl group, a C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 cycloalkyl group, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 cycloalkenyl group, a C.sub.6 -C.sub.8 -bicycloalkyl or a C.sub.6 -C.sub.8 bicycloalkenyl group,
- C.sub.2 -C.sub.8 straight or branched alkenyl group substituted with a halogen, NH.sub.2, N-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl substituted amine, N,N'-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl disubstituted amine, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy group, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -thioalkyl group, a C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 cycloalkyl group, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 cycloalkenyl group, a C.sub.6 -C.sub.8 -bicycloalkyl or a C.sub.6 -C.sub.8 bicycloalkenyl group,
- C.sub.2 -C.sub.8 straight or branched alkynyl group substituted with a halogen, NH.sub.2, N-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl substituted amine, N,N'-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl disubstituted amine, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy group, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -thioalkyl group, a C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 cycloalkyl group, a C.sub.3 -C.sub.9 -cycloalkenyl group, a C.sub.6 -C.sub.8 -bicycloalkyl, or a C.sub.6 -C.sub.8 bicycloalkenyl group,
- C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 cycloalkyl,
- C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 cycloalkenyl,
- C.sub.6 -C.sub.8 bicycloalkyl, or
- C.sub.6 -C.sub.8 bicycloalkenyl;
- with the proviso that when R.sup.1 is SO.sub.2 NH.sub.2 and R.sub.2 is halogen, R.sup.3 is not C.sub.6 -C.sub.8 bicycloalkenyl;
- or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
