Abstract
A method for preparing 1,4-(Z,Z)-disubstituted-1,4-disulfurated-1,3-butadienes is disclosed. The butadienes can be further elaborated to provide 3,6-unsymmetrically-substituted-1,2-dithiins. Also disclosed are butadienes prepared by the method of the invention. These butadienes are useful as intermediates in the synthesis of antibiotic 1,2-dithiins.
Claims7
A 1,4-disulfurated-1,3-butadiene of formula:
- ##STR15## wherein R is chosen from the group consisting of benzyl, p-methoxybenzyl, 2,6-dimethoxybenzyl, diphenylmethyl, triphenylmethyl, t-butyl, 2-(trimethylsilyl)ethyl and acetyl;
- R.sup.7 is chosen from the group consisting of iodo, bromo, chloro, (R.sup.1).sub.3 Sn--, CH.dbd.CH--R.sup.4a and --C.tbd.C--R.sup.4a ;
- R.sup.8 is chosen from the group consisting of iodo, bromo, chloro, (R.sup.1).sub.3 Sn--, CH.dbd.CH--R.sup.4b and --C.tbd.C--R.sup.4b ;
- R.sup.1 is alkyl of 1 to 4 carbons or phenyl;
- and
- R.sup.4a and R.sup.4b are independently selected from the group consisting of trialkylsilyl and C.sub.1 to C.sub.10 hydrocarbons.
