Abstract
Laboratory non-human animals in which the immune system of a human donor is induced in and thrives in vivo and expresses the immune response of the human donor in a recipient non-human animal, and wherein malignant immune system cells of the human donor can be induced in the recipient non-human animal by injection of non-malignant donor cells into the recipient are disclosed.
Claims5
A C.B.-17 scid/scid mouse modified by injection of human leukocytes comprising non-malignant mature peripheral leukocytes of a human donor into said mouse, wherein said modified mouse comprises human leukocytes proliferated in vivo in the mouse and exhibits an immune response which is characteristic of said human donor upon stimulation with an immunogen.
A method of modifying a C.B.-17 scid/scid mouse comprising the steps of:
- injecting human leukocytes comprising non-malignant mature peripheral leukocytes of a human donor into said mouse;
- and
- maintaining said mouse alive for a period of two or more weeks sufficient for said leukocytes to proliferate in vivo in said mouse, thereby causing said modified mouse to exhibit an immune response which is characteristic of said human donor upon stimulation with an immunogen.
