Abstract
This invention relates to a process of manufacturing ketenes, more particularly, a process for manufacturing ketenes by gas phase dehydration of carboxylic acids. The catalyst used in this process consists of a high surface area silica of at least 100 m.sup.2 /gram.
Claims19
A process for the production of ketenes comprising dehydration of a carboxylic acid in the presence of a catalyst which comprises silica having hydroxyl groups present on the surface at concentrations from about 0.5 to about 8/nm.sup.2 and having a high surface area of at least 100 m.sup.2 /gram.
