Abstract
A fusing member and a method for preparing such a fusing member are disclosed. The method has the steps of conversion coating a support member; applying a base cushion of thermally insulating silicone elastomer over the conversion coating; vulcanizing the base cushion; and baking the support member and the base cushion at a temperature in excess of the temperature necessary to vulcanize the base cushion in less than 5 minutes.

A method for preparing a fusing member comprising the steps of conversion coating a metallic support member;
- priming said conversion coating;
- applying a base cushion of thermally insulating silicone elastomer over said primed conversion coating;
- vulcanizing said base cushion;
- applying a thermally conducting elastomer over said base cushion:
- and baking said support member and said base cushion at a temperature from about 150.degree. C. to about 230.degree. C. for at least 18 hours.
A method for preparing a fusing member comprising, in order, the steps of chromate conversion coating an aluminum alloy core;
- priming said conversion coating;
- molding a base cushion of thermally insulating silicone elastomer molding compound over said conversion coating;
- vulcanizing said base cushion;
- applying a layer of thermally conductive elastomer over said base cushion;
- and baking said elastomer covered core at a temperature from about 150.degree. C. to about 230.degree. C. for at least 18 hours.
A fusing member comprising, a support member of aluminum alloy, said support member having a conversion coating, a base cushion of thermally insulating silicone elastomer overlying said conversion coating, a thermally conductive elastomer layer overlying said base cushion, and a primer coat between said conversion coating and said base cushion.
A method for preparing a fusing member comprising the steps of conversion coating a metallic support member;
- priming said conversion coating;
- applying a base cushion of thermally insulating silicone elastomer over said primed conversion coating;
- vulcanizing said base cushion;
- baking said support member and said base cushion at a temperature from about 150.degree. C. to about 230.degree. C. for at least 18 hours;
- and applying a thermally conducting elastomer over said base cushion.
