Abstract
The disclosed invention is directed to novel ceramic compositions, and to stabilizer compositions for use with those ceramic compositions. The ceramic materials are formed of rare earth chromium oxides that include a novel combination of stabilizing compounds. Also, dryer or sterilizer devices which incorporate these ceramic compositions for generating infrared radiation for drying or sterilizing various articles.
Claims31
A method of treating a material with infra-red radiation to preserve at least one property of said material comprising,
- heating a ceramic composition (1) consisting essentially of chromium oxide, silica and ferric oxide;
- or (2) comprising a rare earth chromium oxide composition and a stabilizing composition comprising sufficient amounts of an alkaline earth spinel and an alkaline earth chromate which, in combination, stabilize the rare earth chromium oxide composition, to a temperature of at least about 180.degree. C. to generate infra-red radiation, and
- directing said radiation to said material for a time sufficient to preserve at least one property of said material.
A method of treating a material with infra-red radiation to preserve at least one property of said material comprising,
- heating ceramic composition selected from the group consisting of formulation A, formulation B, formulation C, formulation D, formulation E, or formulation F, where
- formulation A comprises about 0.5-10% MgAl.sub.2 O.sub.4, about 1.0-15% MgCrO.sub.4, up to about 10% CaZrO.sub.4, up to about 5% YCrO.sub.3, up to about 5% ZrO.sub.2, up to about 1% CeO.sub.2, and the remainder is LaCrO.sub.3 ;
