Abstract
The present invention is directed toward a cytology collection apparatus and a method for preparing a uniform monolayer of cells. The apparatus allows the rapid preparation from body fluids of a cytology monolayer with very few overlapping cells and with fewer contaminants than prior devices. The apparatus is in the form of an openable cell collection container which houses a filter for collection of cells when body fluid passes therethrough.
Claims29
A cytology collection apparatus comprising:
- a housing defining a chamber;
- first and second ports defining a flow path through the chamber, said fluid flow path having first and second branches;
- and
- a porous arrangment positioned across the fluid flow path, and having a collection site adapted to collect cells in a monolayer.
A cytology collection apparatus comprising a housing having first and second ports defining a fluid flow path through the housing;
- and a porous arrangement having a first zone being adapted to collect cells and a second zone suitable for passing fluid therethrough, said first zone being positioned across the fluid flow path.
A cytology collection apparatus comprising:
- a first housing having an inlet and an outlet and defining a first fluid flow path between the inlet and the outlet;
- a filter for separating cells from debris positioned in the first housing across the first fluid flow path, and having a first cell collection site;
- a second housing having first and second ports defining a second fluid flow path, said first port in fluid communication with the inlet of the first housing;
- and
- a porous arrangement positioned in the second housing across the second fluid flow path, and having a second cell collection site adapted to collect cells in a monolayer.
