Polymerizable yellow dyes and their use in opthalmic lenses

A polymeric ophthalmic lens material comprising:

• one or more lens-forming monomers selected from the group consisting of acrylate monomers and methacrylate monomers, and
• one or more polymerizable yellow dyes having from one to four polymerizable acrylate or methacrylate groups, wherein each acrylate or methacrylate group is displaced from the dye moiety by a spacing group according to the formula ##STR11## wherein R=H or CH.sub.3
• R.sup.4 =acyclic organic spacing group of up to 10 atoms consisting of C, H, Si, O, N, P, S, Cl, Br or F, alone or in any combination;
• X=O, NH or NR.sup.5 ;
• R.sup.5 =C.sub.1 to C.sub.10 alkyl;
• d, e, g, and h independently=an integer from 0 to 3;
• and
• c and f independently=an integer from 1 to 4.
