Abstract
Antidiabetic composition, characterized in that it contains as active substance, in the free or combined state, at least one mono- or polyhydroxylated amino acid and/or its lactone forms and its amidated derivatives.

Process for stimulating the secretion of insulin and for the treatment of non-insulin dependent diabetes by the administration of effective quantities of substantially pure 4-hydroxyisoleucine of the formula:
- ##STR3## or its lactone form or mixtures thereof.
